Get set. GO.

Today’s my absolutely final day at school in Antwerp. Graduation tonight and even though it feels weird that I won’t be going back to school anymore my future is looking even better. Give me Cardiff over Antwerp anytime.

Even more fun is that with graduation comes the start of summer. I’ll be working for a month but until I start on the 16th I have plenty of plans. Two days at Disneyland Paris with my brother, a sleepover with my bestie not to mention our city trip to Rotterdam, meeting up with various friends I haven’t seen in a while. Oh and maybe a summer cocktail or two…

What are your plans now summer is finally here?

A summery lunch in the park

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

Two days down. Another 300 or something to go before the end of the school year.

On Thursday we had the welcome to the school, a lot of information and tours and stuff. Friday was more of the same (a lot of waiting) but we did have two hours of art history at the end of the day.

Our best 'gangsta' pose. Mine totally went to pieces but I did have cool shades on. Score.

The fun part of Friday was our little ‘field trip’ to the other campus and having lunch in the park. Somehow our class got split in two groups so you’ll see only half (there’s twelve of us in total) enjoying the sunshine. It was a ridiculously hot day, I was sweating like mad. And no you can’t see that in the picture. Hehe.

Pretty pretty classmates. And one sullen-looking guy. He's not like that normally... Heh.

Very intense conversations were had. Or we were gossiping here. Either could be possible.

Also, I couldn’t help but share the following gif with you. I love Eleven, but Ten will always be my first Doctor. And there’s no denying that David Tennant = awesome.

Above the clouds

And we’re back in Belgium after 10 hours of traveling including four trains and one flight. At least I had two whole seats to myself. Glorious.

Also pretty glorious were the clouds today.

The final fika

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

I spent my last full day here in Stockholm. First I accompanied Kristina to the Indian Consulate to apply for her visa and then we had some fika at Vete-Katten.

It was so hard to choose something but in the end I settled on the Twiggy: passionfruit and raspberry panna cotta on a hazelnut meringue base. It also helps that it has the name of a style icon…

Something sweet with raspberries that's called Twiggy? Yes please!

We sat outside, had some tea with our cake/sweets/fika and had a nice chat. Lovely day.

In the sea

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

I’m just a tad homesick. The strange thing however is that at the same time I don’t want to leave Sweden to go home. Doesn’t really make sense, does it?

It’ll be great to be back home and go to the beach among the copious amounts of obnoxious tourists and then see them leave in the evening and walk through the shore with just about no-one in view.

Happy, just happy

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

In the rose garden at Wij Trädgårdar

Yesterday Kristina took me to Ockelbo to visit Wij Trädgårdar (Wij Gardens). It was absolutely beautiful and we had a great time looking around, enjoying the sun and the lovely buffet with local produce for lunch.

While we ate it suddenly dawned on me that I felt perfectly happy. There was nothing nagging in the back of my brain, telling me to do this or that. I just WAS.

Talk about an epiphany.

Breakfast with a view

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

I woke up today to a blue sky dotted with sheep clouds. Add to that a sunny porch, sandwich with Västerbotten cheese and a gorgeous view of the river and I’ll happily sit like that for hours.

Fly, fly away.

Monday, August 8th, 2011

I’m taking the train to Brussels Airport in about five hours. I still need to finish packing, buy new shampoo (because apparently I think they don’t have shampoo in Sweden) & have lunch with mum.

From my trip to Sweden in April 2010.

Then again if you look at how gorgeous the place I’ll be traveling to is, I can hardly wait those five hours. I won’t be staying in one of the houses on the picture but this gorgeous view is about 10-15 mins away by bike if I remember correctly.

See you all when I’m there!

Soft light in the evening

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

I miss Denmark. I miss the lovely bench and the little brook that flows at the end of the garden. I miss that little fairy-tale cottage where you have to bow your head to be able to go through the doors.

Yes, that bench is ideal for reading in the soft light as the sun sets.

It had been over five years since we last stayed there but I still remembered all the things I loved about that place. It was so lovely to add new memories to that list and sharing all the old ones with Julie.

The new ones include but are not limited to:

  • watching three seasons of Blackadder
  • narrowly escaping slavery as a Roman centurion thought we would make terrific personal slaves
  • both being terrified of the dark after watching the Weeping Angels episodes of Doctor Who Series 5
  • singing along with Boney M as my mum drives on the beach at Rømø
  • buying dresses with birds on and hats even though you keep wondering if they look good on you – and being assured by your bestie that they are indeed awesome
  • gathering around the dinner table every night with all the folders you found and using them in your summer diaries
  • laughing until your sides hurt.

We also had philosophical conversations next to the brook... Just kidding.

What’s your favourite holiday memory?
