Simple gratitude

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

I am not American. I guess most of you know that by now. That is not what I am grateful for (I think the US is rather rad). However I most definitely think that Thanksgiving is one of my favourite holidays. Seriously: food, glorious food?

Oh and yeah: being thankful and grateful for what you have.

What am I grateful for you ask? And even if you did not ask I’m telling you anyways (because I love lists and bullet points).

This year I am grateful for:

  • Life. Being alive is such a cool and awesome thing. So much to do, so much to see.
  • Health. Being able to walk and talk and dance and shake and work and sing. The list goes on of all these things I can do because I’m healthy.
  • People. Being all alone is a bit of a bummer. People make everything better. Especially if these are your friends and family.
  • Dreams. Aiming for the stars. Things that keep you going, give you a goal in life, a purpose perhaps. Dreams are amazing and weird and keep you going.
  • Words. From novels and blogs to conversations. Language connects us to people (see, awesome meets awesome to create even more awesome).

Have a lovely Thanksgiving!

PS: I had just posted this and checked bloglovin’ and guess who else used this image to blog about Thanksgiving? The awesome Lisa from The Dame. I guess brilliant minds and stuff… Go read her post here and say hello!

Get set. GO.

Today’s my absolutely final day at school in Antwerp. Graduation tonight and even though it feels weird that I won’t be going back to school anymore my future is looking even better. Give me Cardiff over Antwerp anytime.

Even more fun is that with graduation comes the start of summer. I’ll be working for a month but until I start on the 16th I have plenty of plans. Two days at Disneyland Paris with my brother, a sleepover with my bestie not to mention our city trip to Rotterdam, meeting up with various friends I haven’t seen in a while. Oh and maybe a summer cocktail or two…

What are your plans now summer is finally here?

Easter egg

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Happy Easter to all my dear readers! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day to share with friends and family. As for me it’s a quite lovely day so far. You can read all about it at English Muse where I’ll be guest posting every Sunday from now on.

See you over there!

Have a great day!

Time is not the enemy

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Time is a funny thing. It can seem at once excruciatingly slow and ridiculously fast. It slips by without you notice and sometimes you think one minute will never end (standing and waiting in front of a microwave, anyone?).

You see, I’m a worrier. And especially when it comes to time. I hate suddenly being aware that I’m wasting time even though I’m a notorious procrastinator. The mixture of those two… well, not very healthy all the time, I can tell you that.

So now that the Easter holidays are finally here for me I’d like to share with you all the three things I’ll keep in mind and try my best to live by for the coming two weeks.

Do any of you have Easter break as well now? What are your plans? Enjoying the sun?

A day for chocolate and naughty or nice

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

December 6th is Sinterklaas in Belgium which means: loads of chocolate, klaaskoeken (typical for my home region of West Flanders) and speculoos.

Originally the feast celebrated the name day of Saint Nicholas, patron saint of children, but has become more of a cultural tradition and for me a good chunk of childhood nostalgia.

Every year on the evening of December 5th we would put out our shoe with inside a carrot for the Sint’s horse and our letter to the Holy man and in the morning we would find chocolate, speculoos and presents.

However, the children who had been naughty didn’t get any presents, just some coal. It could get even worse: if you saw Sinterklaas and you’d been naughty then one of the Zwarte Pieten could put you in the burlap bags they always carried around with them.

During the weeks leading up to December 5th I would be in front of the tv every evening watching Dag Sinterklaas, a tv show with Bart Peeters. I absolutely loved that show.
