Favourite: Music and Lyrics

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

I’m back with the Favourite series. Today I give you one of my alltime favourite movies.

Don’t get me wrong, Music and Lyrics isn’t Oscar material by any chance but it never fails to put a smile on my face. It also doesn’t hurt that I love Drew Barrymore and want to steal all her wardrobe from this film.

I actually got this dvd from my mum after she came home from a random errant and I have to admit I was a bit hesitant at first. The story as it came across on the blurb on the back didn’t really appeal to me but one lazy afternoon I popped it into the dvd-player and the rest is as they say history.

Hugh Grant plays Alex Fletcher, former member of boyband Pop! who is desperately trying to revive his career as a retro artist. Cue pop sensation Cora offering him the chance of a lifetime to work with her. The catch? He has one week to write a new song, something he has never done before without a lyricist. Enter Sophie Fisher (the marvelous Drew Barrymore), plant girl and apparently born lyricist.

Saying more would be even more obvious and would totally spoil the plot. Let’s just say: happy endings are my favourites.

Do you have a favourite movie that isn’t all too profound?

Favourites: The Big Bang Theory

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Oh Sheldon.

The above is my most frequent exclamation whenever I watch an episode of Big Bang Theory. I was going to post about all of the reasons why I love this show but here is the abridged version: it speaks to the nerd in me.

Whether it’s the scientific jokes, Howard’s hilariously not-working pick-up lines or Penny’s awesome retorts to any of the guys, this show keeps me entertained episode after episode.

Also Sheldon is hilarious. The end.

Favourites: Pushing Daisies

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

I first watched Pushing Daisies during my Erasmus time in Sweden. A detective fairy tale in glorious colour with amazing sets and wonderful vintage-inspired costumes.

Add to that the ridiculously talented Kristin Chenoweth and loads of pie and it was no wonder I was sold.

Episode 1.08: Bitter Sweets

Yesterday I watched the first two episodes and then my mum joined me for the next two. As I want to watch another episode now I thought a pice of pie would be appropriate snacking.

How I wish I could start a bakery like the Pie Hole.

Favourites: Ashley at I believe in unicorns

Friday, August 12th, 2011

It is Friday once more so here I come bearing favourites again. Today’s feature is Ashley who shares her life, fashion, food and love at I believe in unicorns.

I have to admit that I have a serious case of hair-envy but it can’t run too deep because Ashley’s a total doll. Don’t forget to check out the flower belts in her shop.

She was so sweet to oblige me in sharing her summer favourites:

  1. Exploring Pinterest
  2. Cherry limeades from Sonic
  3. Netflix
  4. Dresses!
  5. Roadtrips with my favourite man
If you want to find out more about Ashley – or just want to see her look remarkably like Luna Lovegood – then go check out her blog!

Don't they look unbelievably gorgeous, cute and jet set-y?

Friday Favourite: Michelle at Oh Mishka

Friday, August 5th, 2011

It is once again Friday and that means that it is time for my weekly opportunity to wax poetically about blogs I love/adore/admire/want to steal every picture from to put on my blog and then feel guilty for mentally plagiarizing them/go crazy for.

This week’s FF is Michelle. You can find her online at Oh Mishka where she talks about her life, her love for Montana and her boyfriend Jordan, all the amazing food she eats (no really, every food post of hers makes me hungry, very hungry) and other fun shenanigans.

She also wears red lipstick like nobodies business and very often makes me green with hair-envy. Apparently I’m not the only one as her About Me page explains how to get her hair! Can we say win?

As a sort of mini-introduction (for the rest you just have to visit her awesome blog) she was so kind as to share share her four summer favourites:

  1. Popsicles. Any kind, any time of day.
  2. BBQ’s, especially with a good group of friends. Nothing makes me happier than conversations with the most hilarious people.
  3. Sleeping with the windows open every single night!
  4. Road trips. I love exploring new places while listening to fun music, drinking iced tea, wearing bright sunglasses and spending all day in the car with my boyfriend.

Have you visited Oh Mishka? What are your summer favourites?
