Of shoes and conquering the world

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

I love Garance Doré‘s blog. I love dreaming away at the pretty outfits, I love swooning over the shoes. But more than that I love her no-nonsense writing, her more often than not very practical approach to fashion and her wonderful illustrations.

It really is true, you know. Give a girl the right shoes – whether they are physical or metaphorical – and she truly can conquer the world. One step at the time.

Scenes from the weekend

Monday, September 26th, 2011

I had such a lovely weekend. Some time to myself, plenty of time for laundry, studying a bit of piano and the third season of Big Bang Theory.

On Sunday I had breakfast in town with my mum. Such a lovely thing to do for the one week I don’t have to work on Sunday morning. Afterwards we discovered this little shop filled with all kinds of dried herbs and spices, special kinds of tea and much more. A little gem right in the middle of town.

I also wanted to share this video about Bill Cunningham. Such an inspirational man with such a grasp on fashion and the first (I think) street fashion photographer. As Anna Wintour says: ‘We all get dressed for Bill.’

Tales of a visit to the sea

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

I had two visitors today.

We went to the older side of the harbour, took pictures, found an art space to intrude upon, visited the fort, had a very enjoyable late lunch and witnessed the very strange yet funny rehearsal for a miss-pageant.

Rediscovering some of the more awesome places in your own town is pretty great by itself, add good company, soft light and good weather and that’s about as good as it gets.

A 'pretend' photographer at work.

100 years of fashion in 100 seconds

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

The video below is actually a commercial for a new shopping mall in London. In 100 seconds you see 100 years of fashion as the couple in the video dances through the decades.

What’s your favourite decade fashion-wise? I’m rather partial to the 40s and 50s – for fancy events especially.

Venetian glamour

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

There is something about Venice. Even though the water is most definitely not as gorgeous as in the movies (and then we’re not even talking about the smell) and the sun is most definitely not always shining, the city has a certain je ne sais quoi about it that makes you love it.

Add to this undefinable quality some Angelina Jolie in a wardrobe designed by Colleen Atwood and you have glamour at its best. You can read more about Atwood’s designs at Clothes on Film.

I have to be honest: The Tourist isn’t the kind of movie that you’ll want to watch over and over again. However the plot is highly entertaining (Paul Bettany = love) and even though Angelina and Johnny Depp do leave me wanting more in terms of on-screen chemistry they do provide enough eye candy (fashion and otherwise) to keep me very much interested.

Can I please have Angelina’s wardrobe and hair in this? And have it look this good on me?

Thank you, that’ll be all.
