Octoberfair

October is the fair-month in Ostend. I remember going every year as a kid with my parents, my grandparents and one of my uncles and his family. Each of the grandchildren could go on one ride from our grandparents and two from our parents.

It’s been years since I last went and it was so nostalgic and fun to go tonight with my mum, brother and grandfather. It’s still a bit weird with my grandma not being there though.

After a bit of coaxing I joined my brother on Break Dance. Never a huge favourite but enjoyable enough. My childhood favourite was Polyp and I always wanted to ride it together with my aunt Ariane.

Oliebollen (sometimes called Dutch donuts) are the traditional fair-food. As a kid the powdered sugar always got all over my usually dark-coloured coat. That didn’t stop us from gobbling them up though.

Still the same carousel that I rode countless times as a little girl. I feel tiny again every time I heard the organ play. Such a pretty carousel.
